Luxury Solo Travel Guide: 10 Days in Hong Kong (Itinerary + Tips)

If you’re planning a trip to Asia and want something that blends luxury with authenticity, this luxury solo travel Hong Kong itinerary will give you exactly that. I recently spent 10 days in Hong Kong, and it completely exceeded my expectations.

This trip was very spontaneous, I didn’t over-plan anything, which made it even more exciting. I met a friend there, explored freely, enjoyed luxury experiences, but also embraced the local side of the city. That balance is what made the trip so special.

Do You Need a Visa?

For me, I didn’t need a visa and could stay for up to 30 days.

This varies depending on your passport, so always check before traveling, but many European travelers can enter visa-free for short stays.

Is Hong Kong Expensive?

This might surprise you, but I didn’t find Hong Kong expensive at all, especially compared to Milan.

  • Transport is very affordable
  • Local food is cheap and incredible
  • Luxury options are there if you want them

What I loved is that you can adjust your experience depending on your budget, while still enjoying a high-end feel throughout your trip.

Getting Around: Transport Tips You NEED to Know

Hong Kong is incredibly easy to navigate, but there are a few things I wish I knew earlier.

Metro (MTR)

I used the metro for the first time ever 😅

When we came back from Victoria Peak, we got off the wrong exit and ended up lost for THREE HOURS 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

We eventually gave up and took a taxi.

But… we didn’t quit.

When we went to the Tian Tan Buddha, we tried again, and we got it right 😅

Lesson learned: if at first you don’t succeed, try again 😂

Taxis & Uber

  • Uber works well
  • Local taxis are everywhere
  • Important: Most taxis only accept HKD cash (no Apple Pay)

Pro Tips You Shouldn’t Skip

  • Download Alipay → used everywhere (even taxis)
  • Download Google Translate → many local restaurants, shops, and taxi drivers don’t speak English

This will make your life SO much easier, especially if you want to experience authentic places.

Connectivity Tips (Don’t Skip This!)

Most places have WiFi, but there’s a limitation:

On local WiFi:

  • TikTok ❌
  • ChatGPT ❌
  • Instagram ✅
  • WhatsApp ✅

To avoid this, get an eSIM.

With an eSIM, you can access everything normally.

My Favourite Experiences

1. Victoria Peak at Sunset (Best Tip!)

Going to Victoria Peak was one of my favourite experiences.

Pro tip: Go at around 5 PM.

You’ll see:

  • Daytime views
  • Sunset
  • Night skyline

2. Tian Tan Buddha (Cable Car OR Bus)

The Tian Tan Buddha is a must.

Originally, we planned to take the cable car, but my friend was terrified 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️😅 so we took the bus instead.

And honestly? It was still such a great experience.

3. Luxury Bars & Nightlife

If you love elevated experiences, Hong Kong is perfect.

From rooftop bars to chic cocktail lounges, the nightlife fits perfectly into a luxury solo travel Hong Kong itinerary without feeling overwhelming.

10-Day Hong Kong Itinerary (Day-by-Day)

Here’s how you can structure your trip based on my experience, while keeping that luxury + spontaneous balance.

Day 1: Arrival & Settling In

  • Check into your hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui
  • Walk along the waterfront
  • Explore K11 Musea
  • Casual dinner nearby

Day 2: Central & Luxury Vibes

  • Head to Central
  • Explore luxury boutiques and cafés
  • Rooftop drinks in the evening

Day 3: Victoria Peak Experience

  • Go to Victoria Peak around 5 PM
  • Stay for sunset + night views
  • Drinks after

Day 4: Local Food & Exploring

  • Try local restaurants (authentic + affordable)
  • Walk around different neighborhoods
  • Use Google Translate when needed

Day 5: Tian Tan Buddha

  • Visit Tian Tan Buddha
  • Take the bus (or cable car if you’re brave 😅)
  • Explore Lantau Island

Day 6: Chill + Shopping Day

  • Relax morning
  • Explore luxury shops (be mindful of authentic vs fake stores)
  • Evening cocktails

Day 7: Getting Lost (Part of the Experience 😂)

  • Use the metro again
  • Explore freely
  • Don’t stress if you get lost, it’s part of the adventure

Day 8: More Luxury Bars

  • Try new rooftop bars
  • Dress up a little
  • Enjoy solo luxury moments

Day 9: Hidden Gems

  • Walk more
  • Explore areas you didn’t plan
  • Discover local cafés and shops

Day 10: Final Day & Reflection

  • Last-minute shopping
  • Waterfront walk
  • Take it all in before leaving

Food: Luxury Meets Authentic

The food in Hong Kong was honestly one of the highlights.

  • Local restaurants = cheap, authentic, delicious
  • High-end dining = more expensive, but worth it

We intentionally did a mix of both, and I’d highly recommend doing the same.

Shopping: Luxury Everywhere (But Be Smart!)

One thing that really surprised me, on almost every corner, there are stores selling luxury items.

At first, we didn’t trust it at all because there were SO many of them.

But we later found out:

  • Some stores sell authentic luxury items
  • Others… not so much

You just need to learn how to spot the difference between real and fake stores.

Safety & Solo Travel Experience

I felt extremely safe the entire time.

Even when we were lost for hours 🤣, I never felt uncomfortable.

People are:

  • Friendly
  • Helpful
  • Welcoming

This made the whole experience even better.

Things I Loved (Random but Iconic)

  • 🚕 Taxis look like they’re from the 70s (I loved this)
  • 🚦 Traffic lights make the MOST annoying sound—but you get used to it
  • 🧍‍♀️ People queue for EVERYTHING (so funny 😄)
  • 🚶‍♀️ The city is very walkable once you understand it

Must-See Places

No luxury solo travel Hong Kong itinerary would be complete without:

  • Victoria Peak
  • Tian Tan Buddha
  • Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront
  • Central
  • K11 Musea

Best Time to Visit Hong Kong

I went mid-March, and it was perfect.

  • 21–24°C during the day
  • Slightly chilly at night

Bring a blazer or shawl for evenings.

Something I Missed (Next Time!)

Because this trip was spontaneous, I didn’t research much beforehand.

But I later found out about the horse racing at Happy Valley Racecourse every Wednesday 🐎

I would have LOVED to go, definitely on my list for next time.
